The Courage to Outgrow an Old Identity
A changed direction often requires surrendering the name by which the former life understood you.

Jacob’s name carried history—grasping, maneuvering, and surviving through strategy. At Peniel, God did more than alter his destination. He confronted the identity that would otherwise reproduce the old life on every new road.
A change of environment cannot complete a holy pivot if the former self remains in command. New opportunities do not cure old deception. New relationships do not automatically heal old insecurity. Direction changes fruitfully when identity is brought beneath God’s naming and forming work.
Do not despise the limp that reminds you where self-sufficiency broke. Transformation may leave a testimony in the body of your habits. Walk differently because you have encountered God—not because the past disappeared, but because it no longer possesses naming rights.
