How Long Will You Limp?

The silence of the people is deafening. Elijah asked one of the most direct questions ever posed to a crowd of religious people — “How long will you go limping between two different opinions?” — and they had nothing to say. Because the double-minded person always goes silent when confronted with the demand for a clear choice. They cannot say “we follow the LORD” because that would require surrendering Baal. They cannot say “we follow Baal” because they still want the benefits of being associated with the God of Israel. So they stand there, limping. Saying nothing. Choosing nothing. Committing to nothing. And God calls it what it is: a limp.

James 1:8 calls the double-minded man “unstable in all his ways.” Not just in one area — in all his ways. Because double-mindedness is not a compartmental problem. It leaks. When you refuse to fully commit to God, the instability spreads to your relationships, your decisions, your finances, your emotional health, your leadership. The person who cannot decide between God and the world ends up getting neither fully. They get a diluted version of both — enough religion to feel guilty about their sin, and enough sin to feel disqualified from God’s best. It is the most miserable spiritual position available, and millions of believers are living in it right now.

The limp is the image. You can see it in the behavior of the double-minded believer. They worship on Sunday and compromise on Monday. They quote Scripture in their caption and post content that contradicts it. They pray for breakthrough and keep making choices that block it. They want God’s power without God’s standards. They want His blessing without His lordship. They want the fire from heaven without the altar of surrender. And so they limp — back and forth, day after day, never fully in and never fully out, draining their own spiritual strength on the friction of indecision.

Elijah is speaking to you today with the full force of Mount Carmel behind him: How long? How many more years will you spend limping? The choice is binary. The Lord is God, or He is not. If He is, then follow Him — fully, completely, with no reserved exit, no backup plan, no foot in both camps. Stop the limp. Choose this day whom you will serve. And do not wait until you feel ready. Make the decision first, and the feelings will follow the faith.
