‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge’ is addressed especially to priests who rejected covenant instruction. Hosea confronts leaders who failed to teach and embody God’s law; the verse should not terrorize children or shame people whose access, literacy, disability, trauma, or education has limited study.
The problem is not innocent uncertainty. It is the willful rejection of knowledge by those responsible to shepherd others. Biblical knowledge includes knowing God’s character and practicing covenant faithfulness, not collecting information for spiritual superiority.
Churches must make Scripture accessible, teach context, welcome questions, and hold leaders accountable. Learners can pursue steady habits without turning reading minutes into a measure of worth. The goal is wisdom that produces love, justice, truth, and obedience.
