Let the Lordship of Jesus Reach Your Decisions

There is a question Jesus asked that was not rhetorical — it was diagnostic. He did not ask it because He lacked the answer. He asked it because the people standing in front of Him lacked the honesty to confront the contradiction living inside their own chests. "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you?" This is the most devastating question in the Gospels not because of its volume but because of its precision. It cuts through every layer of religious performance — through the singing, through the church attendance, through the small group participation, through the ministerial title, through the social media scriptures — and lands with surgical accuracy on the actual governing center of your life. And the answer, for most people reading these words right now, is uncomfortable: because you call Him Lord without actually treating His words as commands. Lordship is not a theological category to be studied — it is a legal and relational reality to be submitted to.

When you say "Jesus is Lord," you are not making a statement about His divine nature in the abstract. You are making a declaration about the chain of authority in your life. Lord means Master. Lord means Owner. Lord means the One whose instructions take priority over your preferences, your instincts, your cultural conditioning, and your personal strategic plan. But examine your actual life — not your stated beliefs, not the doctrinal box you check on a church membership form, but the actual pattern of your decisions. When Jesus says forgive, but you hold the grudge — who is Lord? When Jesus says do not be anxious, but you lie awake spinning worst-case scenarios — who is Lord? When Jesus says go, but you stay; when Jesus says give, but you withhold; when Jesus says humble yourself, but you protect your image — who is Lord? The answer in every case is the same: you are. You have been Lord of your own life, and you have given Jesus the title without the territory.
