gentle or meek. Christlike meekness refuses domination without becoming passive before injustice or harm.

THE WORD

Matthew 5:5 blesses the meek and promises that they will inherit the earth, echoing Psalm 37. Praus means gentle or meek. A trained horse may illustrate restraint, but it is not the definition Jesus supplies or the basis of His promise.

Jesus calls Himself gentle and lowly in Matthew 11:29. His meekness belongs to His faithful character, not a need to dominate. His particular acts of judgment do not authorize every forceful leader to claim that anger is righteous because Jesus was sometimes confrontational.

Meekness can speak firmly, protect a vulnerable person, seek justice, and refuse retaliation. It is neither contempt for strength nor permission for abuse. Let the Lord govern your response, and resist the temptation to win through humiliation or coercion.

A strong response names evidence, handles an objection fairly, and distinguishes application from the passage’s direct statement. Agreement with a teacher alone is not a demonstration of understanding.
