BIBLE JOURNEY · OBADIAH

Pride Can Hide the Edge of the Cliff

STUDY 129Obadiah 1:3 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Obadiah 1:3

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Obadiah confronts Edom, whose mountain strongholds produced false security while the nation participated in violence against Judah. The issue is not private confidence alone but national pride joined to betrayal and exploitation.

Pride deceives by making position look permanent and accountability look impossible. Yet not every confident person is proud, and not every downfall proves arrogance. The passage must not become a tool for diagnosing another person’s hardship.

Humility tells the truth about power, remembers dependence, receives correction, and refuses to profit from a neighbor’s disaster. Ask where security has numbed compassion before the edge becomes visible.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

Where has position, expertise, wealth, or reputation made accountability feel unnecessary?

FAITH RESPONSE

I will hold every strength as stewardship, remain correctable, and refuse to build security upon another person’s harm.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

God of justice, expose pride that hides behind strength. Make us teachable, compassionate, and accountable, and turn our security into responsible service rather than superiority.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Invite one trustworthy person to name a blind spot connected to your influence. Listen without immediate defense and decide one corrective action.
