The LORD Is a Refuge in Trouble

THE WORD

Nahum announces judgment against Nineveh’s violence and imperial cruelty. Within that thunder stands a word of refuge: the LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Refuge is especially good news for people harmed by oppressive power. It must not be used to silence reports of danger or tell someone prayer is the only shelter needed. God’s care may come through safe housing, law, medicine, counseling, community, and justice.

To be known by God is covenant care, not favoritism that makes another sufferer invisible. Run toward God and toward the trustworthy means of protection available in the present trouble.

FAITH RESPONSE

The LORD is good and a stronghold in trouble. I will seek His refuge and receive the lawful, wise help He provides.

Good and strong God, shelter those facing violence, fear, and instability. Guide them toward safety, justice, treatment, and trustworthy people, and make Your church a refuge that protects rather than conceals harm.
