BIBLE JOURNEY · JOEL

The Spirit Is Poured Out on All Flesh

STUDY 125Joel 2:28–29 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Joel 2:28–29

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Joel promises the Spirit across boundaries of sex, age, and social status: sons and daughters, old and young, male and female servants. At Pentecost Peter announces that this promise is being fulfilled as the risen Christ forms a witnessing people.

The Spirit is not reserved for impressive leaders or people with one emotional experience. Nor does every dream, impression, or claimed prophecy carry divine authority. Scripture commands testing, communal discernment, order, love, and accountability.

Receive the Spirit as gift, not status. Ask for power to bear witness, love neighbors, pursue holiness, resist injustice, and build an inclusive community where gifts serve the body rather than elevate personalities.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

Whose Spirit-given voice or service have you undervalued because of age, sex, class, disability, or lack of platform?

FAITH RESPONSE

The Spirit is God’s gift to the whole people of God. I will welcome diverse gifts, test every claim wisely, and use what I receive to serve.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

Holy Spirit, fill Your people for faithful witness and holy love. Break our hierarchies of pride, protect us from untested claims, and make every gift accountable to Scripture, character, and the good of the body.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Read Joel 2:28–32 with Acts 2:14–21. Encourage one overlooked believer whose faithful gift strengthens the community.
