Jehoshaphat was afraid when a great coalition approached Judah. Scripture does not shame the emotion; it shows where he turned. He sought the LORD, gathered the people, prayed, listened, and then led them forward.
Prayer reorders panic beneath the character of God. It slows impulsive reaction and opens us to Scripture, counsel, courage, and the next faithful action. Seeking God first does not mean refusing every human resource He may provide.
Prayer and wise strategy are partners, not rivals. Medical care, safety planning, lawful protection, financial counsel, and skilled assistance can be means of providence. Jehoshaphat prayed and organized the people to act.
Fasting should also be practiced wisely. Children, pregnant people, those with eating disorders, and people with medical conditions or medications may need a non-food fast and clinical guidance. God is not honored by reckless harm.
