First Chronicles 13 records Uzzah reaching toward the ark and dying under divine judgment. David himself is angry and afraid. Asking how to understand this difficult account is not by itself evidence of defective faith.
First Chronicles 15:2, 12–15 supplies essential context: the ark is to be carried by the Levites as Moses commanded, and David acknowledges the earlier failure to seek God according to the prescribed order. Numbers 4:15 also prohibits touching the holy things. The narrative locates responsibility within a specific sacred arrangement; it does not disclose every participant’s private motive.
Reverence includes careful attention to what God has actually said. Christians may draw that principle without predicting sudden death for liturgical mistakes or transferring ark regulations to every ministry preference. Serious questions and reverent obedience can belong together.

- Compare: give a reasonable alternative reading fairly. Explain why the context supports or weakens it.
- Apply: propose one present-day response. Identify what the passage does not promise and whose circumstances require care.
- Revise: check the title, illustration, prayer, and assignment against the same evidence. Change any statement that exceeds it.
A strong response names evidence, handles an objection fairly, and distinguishes application from the passage’s direct statement. Agreement with a teacher alone is not a demonstration of understanding.
