The Filter Can't Fix the Fruit

Jesus gave us the most honest diagnostic tool ever devised: 'you will know them by their fruits.' Not by their words, their image, or their presentation — by their karpos, the actual produce of their lives. And in an age obsessed with curated images, this cuts deep. Because you can filter the photo, adjust the lighting, crop out the mess, and post a life that looks flawless. But there is one thing no filter has ever been able to fix: the fruit.

We have become expert image managers. The feed shows the highlight reel, the aesthetic, the perfectly composed version of a life. But Jesus is unimpressed by presentation. He looks past the filtered image straight to the fruit — how you actually treat people, what actually grows out of your character, the real produce of your days when the camera is off. A diseased tree can be photographed to look healthy, but it will still bear bad fruit, and fruit doesn't lie.

Here's the exhausting trap of the filtered life: you can spend all your energy managing the image while the tree goes untended. You polish the presentation while the roots rot. And eventually the gap between the filtered photo and the actual fruit becomes a kind of prison — performing a life you're not living. The Sugar-Free Gospel™ says it plainly: you can edit the image all you want, but you cannot edit the harvest.

So stop working on the filter and start working on the fruit. The good news is that fruit is a function of the tree's health — which means the answer isn't better editing, it's a healthier root. Abide in Christ, let Him tend the tree, and the good fruit grows naturally, no filter required. A life rooted in Him produces something that looks just as good in real life as it does online — because it's actually real.
