WISDOM WHISPERS™

God’s boundaries are not prison bars around intimacy; they are covenant walls built to protect what human desire can easily wound.
— Bishop W. F. Houston Jr.
דָּבַקdabaq

Word StudyDabaq means to cling, hold fast, or remain closely joined. Genesis uses it for the durable covenant bond in which husband and wife become one flesh.

THE DEVOTION

Before sexuality became a cultural argument, Scripture presented it as a covenant gift. Genesis joins leaving, holding fast, and becoming one flesh. The sequence matters. Sexual union is not treated as an isolated appetite but as embodied belonging within the public, durable responsibility of marriage.

The Hebrew verb dabaq means to cling or hold fast. It describes more than chemistry. Covenant intimacy carries fidelity, truth, mutual responsibility, and a promise that remains when feelings fluctuate. The Bible refuses to reduce bodies to products, pleasure to consumption, or people to experiences collected and discarded.

Christians must speak this conviction without contempt. Every person bears God’s image, including people whose relationships, attractions, or conclusions differ from historic Christian teaching. Cruelty is not courage, ridicule is not holiness, and dehumanization never becomes faithful merely because someone attaches a Bible verse to it.

The same standard must examine the church. Adultery, pornography, coercion, secret relationships, abandonment, and hypocrisy violate the covenant ethic we claim to defend. Biblical sexual integrity is not a weapon aimed at one community; it is a summons that places every desire and every relationship beneath Christ’s authority.

This vision also dignifies singleness. Jesus and Paul demonstrate that a complete human life does not require sexual experience or marriage. Churches should honor celibate believers, support widowed and divorced people, and stop treating marriage as the entrance fee for adult belonging. Covenant ethics require a community strong enough to make costly faithfulness livable rather than leaving people alone with commands.

If your history contains sexual sin, confusion, betrayal, or wounds, grace does not ask you to pretend. Bring the truth into wise pastoral care, accountable community, and, when needed, professional counseling. God’s design carries both moral clarity and a road home. Repentance is not erasure of dignity; it is dignity returning to the One who gave the body meaning.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

Father, teach us to honor covenant, bodies, truth, and every person made in Your image. Forgive our sexual sin, hypocrisy, cruelty, and secrecy. Heal those harmed by betrayal or coercion, strengthen marriages in faithfulness, and give single believers grace for embodied holiness. Let conviction sound like Christ—full of truth and grace.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

BENEDICTION

May the God of covenant form integrity in your desires, faithfulness in your commitments, and grace in your speech.
