THE DEVOTION
Moses warns the tribes of Reuben and Gad that covenant unfaithfulness carries consequences: “be sure your sin will find you out.” The Hebrew matsa means to find, reach, or overtake. The warning is not superstition, as though sin were a creature hunting through the dark. It is moral realism. What we hide reshapes choices, relationships, memory, and conscience long before anyone discovers the facts.
Digital life has accelerated public exposure. Screenshots, recordings, and archived messages can preserve a moment indefinitely. Yet the deepest danger is not that the internet may remember; it is that secrecy begins governing the person who is trying not to be known. Hiding multiplies lies, forces distance, and often transfers the cost to people who never consented to carry it. It also distorts discernment: every question begins to sound like accusation, every delay feels threatening, and every relationship becomes another location where the hidden thing must be managed.
Confession is therefore more than reputation management. We do not confess merely to control the timing of disclosure or escape consequences. We confess because truth belongs before God, because harmed people may deserve honest repair, and because secrecy is a cruel master. Where abuse, exploitation, crime, or danger is involved, responsible truth may also require safeguarding, qualified counsel, and lawful accountability—not a private religious shortcut.
Grace does not promise that every screenshot disappears or every relationship returns to what it was. Grace promises that repentance can begin before concealment consumes another day. Bring the hidden thing into wise and appropriate light. Tell the truth without manipulation. Accept the consequences you cannot erase. Seek help for what you cannot repair alone. Sin may have found you, but mercy can still meet you in the place where running ends. The goal is not merely to survive discovery; it is to become truthful enough that secrecy no longer governs the future.

Practice interpreting before teaching
- Observe: identify the speaker, audience, situation, and two statements the passage makes explicitly.
- Interpret: state the conclusion in your own words and explain which details support it. Mark any inference.
- Compare: give a reasonable alternative reading fairly. Explain why the context supports or weakens it.
- Apply: propose one present-day response. Identify what the passage does not promise and whose circumstances require care.
- Revise: check the title, illustration, prayer, and assignment against the same evidence. Change any statement that exceeds it.
A strong response names evidence, handles an objection fairly, and distinguishes application from the passage’s direct statement. Agreement with a teacher alone is not a demonstration of understanding.
