C H O F MINISTRY™ — UNIFIED MANNA™
The Prodigal's Father Was Already Watching the Road
The son rehearsed a speech about being a servant. The father was already watching the road, planning a feast. Grace runs before repentance finishes talking.

FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTURE · ESV
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”Luke 15:20 (ESV)
WISDOM WHISPERS™
“The son rehearsed a speech about being a servant. The father was already watching the road, planning a feast. Grace runs before repentance finishes talking.”— Bishop W. F. Houston Jr.
Word Studyto be moved with compassion from the depths — literally from the splanchna, the inward parts, the gut. The father's compassion was not polite pity. It was splanchnizomai — a compassion that convulsed him from the inside and put an old man's legs into a run.
THE DEVOTION
Notice four words that change everything: 'while he was still a long way off.' 👀 The son was not yet home. He was a distant, ragged silhouette on the horizon, still rehearsing his servant speech. And the father saw him — which means the father was watching the road. This was not the first time he had scanned that horizon. He had been looking every single day.
Then comes the word that breaks a thousand religious assumptions: splanchnizomai. The father was moved from the gut, convulsed with compassion — and he ran. 🔥 In that culture, a dignified elder did not run; running meant lifting your robe and exposing your legs, an act of undignified desperation. The father threw his dignity to the wind and sprinted toward a boy who smelled like pigs.
And here is the timing the Sugar-Free Gospel™ refuses to let you miss: the father ran and embraced him before the son finished his confession. Grace did not wait for the speech to conclude. 🙏🏿 The son was still planning to negotiate for servant status when the robe, the ring, and the sandals were already being called for. He came home to be a hired hand and was restored as a son before he could get the words out.
You have been afraid to come home because you think God is standing at the door with folded arms, waiting to hear how sorry you are. He is not. He is watching the road. And the moment you turn toward home, He is already running — not to shame you, but to reach you before you can even finish apologizing.
🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™
