Never Season Truth for Spectators
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
To please, satisfy, or seek another person’s approval. Paul is not rejecting love or thoughtful communication; he is rejecting bondage to human approval as the governing motive of a servant of Christ.
Not everyone who enters a digital space comes hungry for truth. Some arrive to learn, grow, and be nourished. Others come to monitor, measure, compare, criticize, or wait for a contradiction. Paul refuses to let the audience’s motive rewrite the messenger’s assignment.
A servant of Christ may explain truth carefully, present it beautifully, and communicate it wisely. But the servant is never authorized to alter the substance in order to retain the spectator. When approval becomes the governing appetite, ministry quietly becomes performance.
Do not season conviction according to comments, analytics, applause, or surveillance. Feed the hungry. Remain faithful before the watchers. Leave the motives of the audience with God, and keep the message under the lordship of Christ. Truth does not need the observer’s permission to remain true.
