FOUNDATIONAL SCRIPTURE · ESV

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.
Ephesians 1:11 (ESV)

WISDOM WHISPERS™

Your spiritual inheritance is secured in Christ. Claim it boldly, walk in it daily, and let it empower you to fulfill God’s purpose.
— Bishop W. F. Houston Jr.
κληρόωklēroō

Word StudyTo receive or be appointed an inheritance. Paul’s language points away from self-made achievement and toward a possession established by God’s purposeful will.

THE DEVOTION

The culture tells us to secure the bag through relentless hustle, strategic visibility, and personal leverage. Paul announces a different kind of security: in Christ, believers have obtained an inheritance. It is not the reward for outworking everybody else. It is the result of belonging to the One in whom God has gathered redemption, adoption, purpose, and hope.

That does not authorize spiritual entitlement. Biblical inheritance is not permission to treat God like a financier of appetite. The inheritance secured in Christ includes reconciliation with God, a new identity, the indwelling Spirit, access to divine wisdom, and a life summoned into holy purpose. We do not possess these gifts so that ego can become religiously decorated. We receive them so that grace can become visible through faithful living.

The Greek verb klēroō carries the language of receiving an allotted inheritance. The emphasis rests on the Giver’s decision, not the recipient’s performance. God’s counsel is not scrambling to respond to your circumstances. His purpose is not waiting for the world to approve your value. What He established in Christ cannot be increased by applause or canceled by neglectful spectators.

Yet an inheritance can be legally secure and practically ignored. Some believers live like spiritual orphans while carrying the name of heirs. They beg for peace without practicing trust, ask for wisdom while resisting Scripture, and desire purpose without accepting obedience. Faith does not manufacture the inheritance; faith learns to walk in what grace has already provided.

The bag is secured—but it is filled with responsibility as well as privilege. Receive your identity without arrogance. Use your gifts without ownership pride. Carry God’s provision into the lives of others. The evidence that you understand your inheritance is not merely that you celebrate what is yours, but that you steward it for the glory of the One who gave it.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

Father, thank You for the inheritance You have secured for us in Christ. Deliver us from striving for an identity Your grace has already established and from treating spiritual privilege as personal entitlement. Teach us to walk in wisdom, peace, holiness, and purpose. Make us responsible stewards of every gift You have placed in our hands, and let what we receive from You become a blessing through us. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

BENEDICTION

May the God who works all things according to the counsel of His will establish your confidence in Christ, discipline your stewardship, and empower you to walk faithfully in the inheritance grace has secured.
