Christ Lives in You—Surrender Without Erasing the Self

STUDY 208Galatians 2:20 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Galatians 2:20

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Paul describes participation in Christ’s crucifixion and a new life lived by faith in the Son of God. The autonomous self that seeks justification through law and self-achievement no longer holds the throne. Christ becomes the source and governing center of life.

This surrender does not erase personality, agency, consent, vocation, culture, or healthy desire. It does not authorize a leader, spouse, or institution to claim Christlike control over another person. The indwelling Christ restores human life to faithful purpose; He does not turn people into objects without voice.

Living by faith means decisions are no longer ruled by ego, fear, or self-salvation. We pray, reason, seek counsel, use gifts, honor limits, and choose responsibly beneath Christ’s love. The One who gave Himself for us is not threatened by mature human agency submitted to truth.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

Where is ego still functioning as lord, and where have you confused surrender to Christ with surrender to unhealthy human control?

FAITH RESPONSE

Christ is the center of my life. I surrender self-rule while receiving the responsible agency, dignity, gifts, and boundaries He restores.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

Son of God, crucify pride and every attempt to save myself. Live Your faithful love through my choices, protect me from coercive control, and make my agency a servant of Your kingdom.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Name one ego-governed decision to surrender and one God-given boundary or responsibility to exercise faithfully.
