Paul warns that choices have moral direction. Sowing to the flesh cultivates corruption; sowing to the Spirit cultivates life. Repeated habits matter because character and community are formed over time. Grace does not make human actions consequence-free.
Sowing and reaping is not karma, a guarantee of financial return, or an explanation for every hardship. People suffer through injustice, illness, disaster, abuse, inherited conditions, and other people’s choices. The wounded must not be told that every painful harvest proves they planted the wrong seed.
Read the warning beside the surrounding commands: restore the caught person gently, bear one another’s burdens, test your own work, share good things, and do not grow weary in doing good. Spirit-sowing is communal, patient, and restorative. Change the seed you control, resist unjust fields, and help carry harvests another person did not choose.
