2 Corinthians 7:10
Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.THE WORD
Paul distinguishes grief that produces repentance from grief that collapses inward and produces death. Godly grief tells the truth about sin and turns toward salvation. Worldly grief may remain centered on exposure, lost reputation, consequences, or the unbearable image of oneself as a failure.
Repentance is not measured by volume of tears, public spectacle, or self-punishment. Some people feel emotion intensely; others process slowly or under trauma. The question is fruit: Is the wrong named? Is harm repaired? Is access changed? Is counsel received? Is the vulnerable person protected?
Self-hatred can imitate holiness while keeping attention fixed on the self. The gospel invites responsible sorrow without despair. Christ does not merely make us feel worse; He leads us into truthful change, restitution where possible, and renewed obedience.
CONFRONTATION QUESTION
Is your sorrow producing concrete repentance and repair, or circling around exposure, image, and self-condemnation?
