Paul describes the gospel’s treasure carried in ordinary earthen vessels so that extraordinary power is recognized as God’s rather than ours. Human limitation does not disqualify ministry; it prevents the messenger from becoming the message.
Fragility is not worthlessness. A person living with disability, depression, illness, aging, grief, or limited resources is not a defective container. Nor does the metaphor require leaders to hide preventable harm, refuse treatment, or celebrate breakdown. Clay vessels deserve care precisely because they carry treasure.
The church becomes credible when it stops pretending its servants are made of marble. Name limits, share responsibility, receive help, build succession, and let the light belong to Christ. The crack is not the gospel, but neither can it block the gospel when truth and grace are allowed through.
