Paul prayed repeatedly for the thorn to leave, and the answer he received was sufficient grace. The passage dignifies persistent weakness without pretending it is pleasant. God’s power is displayed through dependence rather than the illusion of self-sufficiency.
We should not identify another person’s thorn for them, discourage treatment, or call preventable abuse a divine instrument. Paul’s experience does not make every illness, disability, oppression, or unanswered prayer something people must celebrate. Seek care, safety, justice, and relief while trusting grace within what has not yet changed.
Boasting in weakness is not broadcasting private pain for applause. It is releasing the performance of invulnerability and acknowledging where Christ sustains what human strength cannot. Grace may remove, heal, support, redirect, or simply hold. In every case, power belongs to Christ.
