Let Justice Roll Through Worship

Amos 5:21–24

THE WORD

Amos speaks God’s rejection of Israel’s festivals, songs, and offerings because worship had been severed from justice. The problem was not musical style or imperfect people gathering; it was a religious system comfortable beside exploitation.

Justice and righteousness are not occasional projects added to worship. Amos pictures them as an ever-flowing stream. Fair treatment, truthful systems, protection of the vulnerable, honest wages, and impartial judgment belong to covenant faithfulness.

Do not use this passage merely to condemn another congregation. Let it audit budgets, leadership structures, employment, safeguarding, accessibility, partnerships, and personal conduct. Worship becomes credible when praise and public life tell the same truth.

I will not separate worship from justice. By God’s grace, my praise, practices, and systems will move toward righteousness.

Prayer

God of justice, expose worship that covers exploitation. Reform our hearts, budgets, leadership, and daily practices until righteousness flows through the communities that sing Your name.
