Amos 3:3 begins a sequence of cause-and-effect questions that explains why the prophet is speaking: an effect points to a cause, and the LORD’s revelation compels the prophet’s warning. The verse is not a simple slogan that every disagreement proves someone is not walking with God.
Translations render the key idea as agreeing, meeting, or making an appointment. In context, the question supports prophetic accountability within Israel’s covenant. It does not authorize leaders to equate their preference with God’s voice or demand unquestioning conformity.
Walking faithfully requires alignment with God’s revealed character and Word, tested in context and community. Honest questions, lament, developing understanding, and responsible disagreement can exist within discipleship. The issue is whether truth is being rejected or faithfully sought.
