Ecclesiastes warns against rash speech and careless vows in God’s presence. Reverence slows the mouth because the Creator does not need performance, exaggeration, or promises we will not keep.
Prayer includes speaking and listening, but silence is not a technique that guarantees a private message. God has spoken authoritatively in Scripture, and every impression must be tested by that Word, the character of Christ, wise counsel, and faithful context.
Some people experience silence as peace; others encounter intrusive thoughts, trauma, anxiety, or attention difficulty. A listening heart can use spoken Scripture, journaling, walking prayer, communal worship, or brief quiet without shame.
Let words be few enough to become truthful. Keep vows carefully, listen to Scripture deeply, and refuse to label the first inner impression as God’s command.
