Proverbs links pride with disgrace because pride resists the correction that could prevent ruin. The danger is not a guaranteed public humiliation arranged on a timetable; it is the blindness produced when self-importance makes truth unwelcome.
Pride can hide inside expertise, ministry, victimhood, success, or even self-denigration that keeps attention fixed on the self. Humility is not pretending to have no gifts. It is receiving gifts as stewardship and remaining correctable.
We must not weaponize this proverb against people who suffer public shame or failure. Not every humiliation proves private arrogance, and restoration should not become entertainment.
Ask where defensiveness has made you unteachable. Welcome truthful feedback, verify it wisely, repent where needed, and refuse the urge to protect image at the cost of character.
