Proverbs observes that companionship forms character. Habits, language, assumptions, and courage are influenced by the people with whom we walk closely.
Wisdom is not automatically transferred by proximity, and Scripture does not say every great person had a formal ‘covering.’ Growth requires teachability, practice, discernment, and the Spirit’s work—not mere access to impressive leaders.
Choose close counsel carefully without becoming elitist or abandoning people who struggle. Jesus loved sinners without surrendering His moral center. Boundaries may change influence while compassion remains.
Seek relationships marked by truth, humility, reciprocity, accountability, and love. Also become the kind of companion who helps others grow rather than treating wise people as resources for personal advancement.
