BIBLE JOURNEY · HAGGAI

Reorder the House You Are Building

STUDY 141Haggai 1:4 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Haggai 1:4

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Haggai addresses a returned exile community that had resumed private rebuilding while the temple remained in ruins. This is a specific postexilic covenant setting, not a fundraising slogan that places an institution above housing, food, family care, or debt wisdom.

The prophet asks the people to consider their ways because communal worship and covenant identity had been indefinitely postponed. Priorities become visible through calendars, budgets, labor, and whose needs receive attention.

Reordering may include renewed worship, generous community investment, care for family, rest, justice, or stopping a prestige project. God’s house is not honored by neglecting people who bear His image.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

What do your calendar and resources reveal about the priorities actually governing your life?

FAITH RESPONSE

I will consider my ways and reorder time, resources, worship, and responsibility beneath God’s priorities without neglecting vulnerable people.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

God of the returned exiles, examine what we are building. Correct misplaced priorities, protect families and vulnerable people, and teach us to invest in worship, justice, community, and faithful responsibility.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Audit one week of time and spending. Make one concrete reallocation toward a neglected God-honoring responsibility without creating avoidable harm.
