Busy Is Not the Same as Fruitful

Jesus gently names something in Martha that indicts most of us: 'you are anxious and troubled about many things.' The word behind 'troubled' is turbazo — thrown into a whirl, agitated by too much activity at once. And here's what convicts: Martha wasn't doing anything sinful. She was serving Jesus, working hard, being productive. Her problem wasn't sin — it was that busyness had crowded out the one thing that actually mattered. She was doing so much FOR Jesus that she missed being WITH Him.

This exposes one of the enemy's most effective and least suspected strategies. He doesn't need to make you commit some dramatic sin to render you useless — he just needs to keep you busy. Distracted. Overcommitted. Running from one good thing to the next until you have no margin, no stillness, no time to actually hear God or bear real fruit. A believer buried under busyness is often more useless to the Kingdom than one who's been defeated, because at least the defeated one knows something is wrong. The busy one thinks they're doing great.

We've made an idol of activity and mistaken motion for progress. We fill every hour, answer every demand, say yes to everything, and wear our exhaustion like a badge of honor — and at the end of it, we're depleted but not fruitful, busy but not effective, active but not abiding. The Sugar-Free Gospel™ says it plainly: busy is not the same as fruitful, and the enemy is perfectly content to let you run yourself ragged doing good things if it keeps you from the one necessary thing.
