WISDOM WHISPERS™

Healing does not require erasing the past; Joseph named remembered hardship and present fruitfulness beneath God’s care.
— Bishop W. F. Houston Jr.
מְנַשֶּׁהMenasheh

Word StudyManasseh is related to a Hebrew verb for forgetting or being relieved of a burden. Joseph’s naming marks God’s care without teaching that trauma, family history, or responsibility must be erased.

THE DEVOTION

Joseph named his sons after his rise to authority, not before his promotion. Manasseh remembered relief from hardship; Ephraim confessed fruitfulness in the land of affliction. The names hold loss and growth in the same family story.

‘Forget’ cannot mean that Joseph lost memory. He later recognized his brothers, wept repeatedly, tested the situation, protected the vulnerable, and named the wrong that had been done. Healing did not require amnesia or denial.

Some wounds remain part of our story without remaining rulers over it. Recovery may involve lament, boundaries, trauma-informed care, reconciliation where it is safe, and acceptance that some relationships cannot return to their former shape.

Name both realities: what wounded you and what God has grown. Do not force pain to become a testimony before it has received care, and do not let another person use forgiveness to bypass truth. Grace can make us fruitful without calling evil good.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

God of Joseph, hold our memories with truth and mercy. Heal what remains wounded, guide us in safe boundaries and wise care, and grow fruit without requiring denial. Give us courage to name both loss and grace beneath Your faithful presence.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

BENEDICTION

May God loosen the grip of remembered pain and make you fruitful without erasing the truth.
