God Is Not Impressed by the Size of Your Barn

THE DEVOTION

The man in Jesus' parable was not lazy, dishonest, or incompetent. 💰 He was a successful farmer with a bumper crop and a sensible plan: tear down the old barns, build bigger ones, store it all up, and finally relax. By every worldly measure he was winning. And God looks at this winner and calls him aphron — a fool. Not because his barn was big, but because his soul was empty.

Here is the whole tragedy in one word: 'I.' Read his speech — 'I will do, I will pull down, I will store, I will say to my soul.' 🗣️ Eleven first-person references and not one mention of God, the poor, or eternity. He did all the math of his life and left the biggest variable out of the equation. That is what makes a man aphron.

And then the terrifying line: 'This night your soul is required of you.' All that planning assumed one thing he never controlled — time. He budgeted for many years and did not have one more night. The Sugar-Free Gospel™ says it without flinching: you can be brilliant about your barn and a fool about your soul.

So build if you must, plan if you should — but do not do the math of your life without God in it. 🙏🏿 The question is not how big your barn is. The question is what you are rich toward. When your soul is required, the barn stays behind, and the only wealth that transfers is what you stored up in heaven.
