BIBLE JOURNEY · LUKE

Count the Cost and Build With Grace

STUDY 168Luke 14:28 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Luke 14:28

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Jesus uses a tower and a king considering war to insist that discipleship is not a casual attachment added to an otherwise self-governed life. Following Him requires sober allegiance.

Counting the cost is not a demand for flawless foresight or endless self-suspicion. People grow, circumstances change, and wounded disciples may need rest, treatment, counsel, or a renewed plan rather than condemnation for struggling.

Make commitments truthfully. Build with community, receive grace for weakness, and distinguish the cost of obeying Christ from costs imposed by controlling leaders or unhealthy systems.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

Which commitment needs honest recommitment, wise restructuring, or release because it was never Christ’s command?

FAITH RESPONSE

I will follow Jesus with open eyes, durable trust, and community support, refusing both shallow promises and coercive burdens.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

Lord Jesus, deepen our yes. Give grace for weakness, wisdom for commitments, and freedom from leaders who add their demands to Your cross.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Choose one major commitment. Clarify its real cost, needed support, and next sustainable step with a trusted person.
