Paul reminds Timothy that God’s gift does not produce cowardice but power, love, and self-control. The context concerns courage in witness and ministry. It is not a diagnosis declaring that every experience of fear, panic, trauma response, or clinical anxiety comes from personal sin or demonic control.
Fear can warn of real danger, and wise love listens before acting. Courage is not recklessness, denial, or refusal of care. Power without love becomes domination; self-control without compassion becomes suppression. The Spirit forms a courageous steadiness that protects people and tells the truth without surrendering to panic.
Name the fear accurately. If danger is real, seek safety and help. If imagination is exaggerating the threat, bring it into prayer, wise counsel, and evidence. If symptoms persist, pursue qualified care. Fear may speak, but it does not receive final authority over the next faithful step.
