FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV
2 Timothy 2:15
Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.THE WORD
Paul calls Timothy to present himself as an approved worker who handles the word of truth rightly. Scripture is not raw material for a preacher’s ego, a political slogan, or a shortcut to emotional control. People can be wounded when context is ignored and private conclusions are announced with divine certainty.
Careful handling requires attention to genre, grammar, historical setting, canonical context, the person and work of Christ, and the wisdom of the church across time. It also requires humility about what a passage does not settle. Study is spiritual labor; confidence should rise no higher than the evidence warrants.
Teachers carry heightened responsibility, but every believer can practice faithful reading. Read complete passages, compare interpretations, consult trustworthy scholarship, and examine the fruit of an application. Do not twist Scripture to win. Let Scripture correct the conclusion you hoped to prove.
CONFRONTATION QUESTION
Which interpretation or teaching habit needs slower study, stronger context, or correction from trustworthy scholarship and the wider church?
