Finish the Course Without Despising the Body

THE WORD

Paul told the Ephesian elders that he did not count his life precious compared with finishing the ministry received from Jesus: testifying to the gospel of grace. His words arise within a specific apostolic calling and anticipated suffering.

This courage should not become a martyr complex, contempt for health, or permission for leaders to spend other people’s lives. Paul also accepted protection, appealed to law, received hospitality, traveled with companions, and instructed care for the body.

Finishing faithfully may require endurance, changed pace, succession, treatment, rest, delegation, or release from an assignment whose season has ended. The course belongs to Christ, not to ego.
