Zechariah 8:16–17

Zechariah describes the ethics of a restored community: speak truth, render judgments that are true and make for peace, do not devise evil, and reject false oaths. God opposes practices that destroy communal trust.
The text does not say God hates the person beyond mercy. It says these destructive things are hateful to Him. Repentance remains possible and must become confession, restitution, changed systems, and sustained truthful behavior.
Truth is not bluntness without love, and peace is not silence that protects abuse. Speak accurately, preserve evidence, report serious harm, listen to affected people, and build processes where justice can be trusted.
