Judges 6:12–13
Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.THE WORD
God calls Gideon a mighty man of valor while Gideon is hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat in fear. That is the picture. That is exactly where God meets you. Not where you think you should be before God can use you — in the hidden place, in the fearful place, in the “I am not ready and I am not qualified” place. The angel of the LORD does not call Gideon what Gideon sees in the mirror. God calls Gideon what God has already decided he is. The question is: which voice are you going to believe today?
Notice Gideon’s response. He does not receive the word — he argues with it. “If the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened?” This is the language of the excuse-maker. This is the theology of the defeated. Instead of accepting God’s declaration and rising into it, Gideon audits God’s faithfulness based on his current circumstances. How many of you are doing the same thing? You look at your failed marriage, your stalled ministry, your broken finances, your unanswered prayers, and you use those circumstances to disqualify God’s call on your life. “If God really called me, wouldn’t things be going better?” That is not faith — that is spiritual cowardice dressed as theological reasoning.
God does not call the equipped. He equips the called. Gideon was the least in his father’s house, from the weakest clan in Manasseh — and God chose him anyway. Not despite his weakness, but through it, so that when Israel was delivered, nobody would have any doubt about who did it. Your insufficiency is not a disqualifier — it is the very environment where God’s sufficiency can be displayed most gloriously. Stop using your background as a barrier. Stop using your past failures as a permanent veto over your future assignments. God looked past all of it when He called you, and He still sees the mighty warrior in you that you refuse to see in yourself.
Today is the day you come out of the winepress. Today is the day you stop threshing in fear and start marching in faith. God has already declared who you are. The assignment is already written. The enemy already knows it, which is why he has been working so hard to keep you convinced you’re disqualified. Rise. The LORD is with you, mighty man — mighty woman — of valor.
CONFRONTATION QUESTION
What specific excuse have you been using to justify your disobedience to the call of God on your life — and how long are you going to let that excuse keep you hiding in the winepress?
FAITH RESPONSE
🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™
Prayer
Truth must become practice.
TODAY, write down the one assignment, calling, or step of obedience you have been avoiding. Then write next to it every excuse you have used — and cross them all out. Pray over that paper, and take one concrete, non-negotiable step toward obedience before the day ends.
