The Generation That Forgot God

Judges 2:10–11

THE WORD

One generation witnessed the Red Sea split open. They watched manna fall from heaven. They saw the walls of Jericho crumble at the sound of a shout. And then they died — and the generation they raised did not know God. Let that sentence shatter every assumption you have about passing faith down simply by proximity. You cannot assume that because you sit in church, your children will know the LORD. You cannot assume that because you carry a Bible, something will rub off on the people in your household. A generation that does not know God is not an accident — it is a failure of intentional spiritual parenting, leadership, and transmission.

Read verse 10 again. They did not know the LORD — not His name, not His ways, not His works. And within one verse, they were already serving Baals. This is how fast the collapse happens. One generation of silence. One generation of comfort-focused parenting that refused to confront. One generation of parents so busy building careers that they outsourced spiritual formation to Sunday school and hoped for the best. And the next generation served idols. The trajectory from ignorance to idolatry is terrifyingly short.

What are you actively doing to pass faith to the people in your sphere? Not passively — actively. Are you telling the stories of what God has done in your own life? Are you building altars in your home through prayer, through scripture, through deliberate conversation about the living God? Or have you assumed the church will handle it, the pastor will handle it, the youth group will handle it — while you remain spiritually silent in the very house where God placed you as priest and leader? The silence of godly parents produces the idolatry of their children.

This is not a message about condemnation — it is a message about urgency. Today is the day to begin. Today is the day to sit your children, your younger siblings, your mentees down and tell them what God has done. Tell them about the miracle. Tell them about the deliverance. Tell them that the God of the Bible is not a historical artifact — He is alive, He is active, and He demands to be known. Do not allow the generation after you to rise and say they never heard. You are the bridge. Be the bridge. Build it today before the gap becomes a chasm.

If you were taken from the earth today, would the people you leave behind know the LORD — not just know about Him, but truly know Him — because of what you modeled, taught, and declared over their lives?

FAITH RESPONSE

I declare that I will not be a silent generation. I will speak the works of God openly and boldly to every person in my household and sphere of influence. The enemy will not steal the next generation on my watch. I will build altars, tell the stories, and raise up a people who know the LORD — starting in my own home, today, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for every moment of spiritual silence that allowed darkness to fill a space You meant for Your glory. I repent for assuming that faith would transfer without effort. Today I take my place as a spiritual transmitter of Your truth. Open my mouth and give me boldness to speak Your works, Your name, and Your power to those who have not yet heard. Let the generation after me rise knowing You — deeply, personally, and unshakeably.

Truth must become practice.

TODAY, tell someone younger than you — a child, sibling, mentee, or anyone in your circle — one specific thing God has done in your life. Make it real, make it personal, and make it clear that the God who did it is still alive and still working. Do not let this day pass in spiritual silence.
