Samson’s story belongs to the old-covenant era, when the Spirit’s empowering presence for a particular task could be described differently from the New Testament’s promise that the Holy Spirit indwells those who belong to Christ. This passage should not be used to teach anxious believers that every failure means God has silently abandoned them.
The warning is still severe: repeated compromise can make a person numb. Samson treated a sacred calling casually until he could no longer recognize how far he had drifted. Sin often erodes discernment before it produces visible collapse.
Grace is not permission to keep testing the boundary. In Christ, repentance means bringing compromise into the light, receiving forgiveness, accepting wise accountability, and cutting off access that repeatedly feeds destruction.
Do not treat anointing as a spiritual commodity that rises and falls with emotion. Seek the Giver, honor Scripture, and respond when conviction comes. Numbness is not the final word; God can restore a repentant heart.
