The message of the cross overturns human systems of prestige, control, and self-salvation. A crucified Messiah sounded absurd within worlds that associated crosses with defeat and shame. Yet God revealed saving power precisely where worldly wisdom saw weakness.
Faithfulness does not require poor reasoning, historical carelessness, or contempt for education. Paul argued, taught, quoted poets, and addressed his hearers’ context. What Christians must not do is remove the scandal at the center: humanity cannot save itself, Christ gave Himself for sinners, and resurrection vindicates the way of self-giving love.
Do not make the gospel foolish through sloppy claims, hypocrisy, or unnecessary offense and then call rejection persecution. Let the cross itself be the stumbling block. Speak intelligently, live humbly, welcome honest questions, and refuse to replace Christ crucified with motivational religion.
