Your Body Is a Temple, Not a Commodity

THE WORD

Paul speaks into a discussion of sexual immorality and union with Christ. The believer’s body belongs to the Lord and is indwelt by the Spirit. Embodiment therefore carries covenant meaning; bodies are not disposable instruments for appetite, profit, domination, or shame.

Temple language must not be turned into body shaming, simplistic health judgments, or blame toward people living with illness, disability, infertility, aging, or trauma. Stewardship differs according to capacity and circumstance. Medical care, rest, nourishment, movement, sexual integrity, consent, and protection from abuse can all honor God.

To say you were bought with a price is not to make church leaders owners of your body. Christ purchased freedom from enslaving powers; human authorities do not receive unrestricted access. Glorify God by treating your own body and every neighbor’s body with dignity, truth, boundaries, and care.

Prayer

Indwelling Spirit, heal contempt and teach wise stewardship. Guard bodies from exploitation, give courage for treatment and boundaries, and form sexual integrity, care, and reverence within us.
