Cancelled by Man, Called by God

Paul asks a question that our cancel-culture age needs like water in a drought: 'Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?' He had faced enough opposition, slander, and rejection to know that you cannot serve God and simultaneously live for the crowd's approval. And he settles it with a single word about his identity — he is a doulos, a bondservant of Christ. His approval-source and his accountability belong to his Master, not to the mob.

We live in the era of the cancel. One screenshot, one mistake, one unpopular truth, and the court of public opinion renders its verdict: you're finished, erased, revoked. And that machinery is terrifying precisely because it feels final. But here is what the cancelled believer must remember: the court of public opinion has no power to revoke a calling it never issued. Man can cancel your reputation. Man cannot cancel your commission, because man didn't give it.

This is the freedom of the doulos. When your identity and calling come from God, the crowd's approval becomes a thing you can hold loosely — nice when it comes, survivable when it goes. Paul knew that trying to please man and serving Christ were mutually exclusive at the point where they conflict. The Sugar-Free Gospel™ says it plainly: you cannot be a servant of Christ and a slave of the crowd's opinion at the same time.

So if you've been cancelled — by people, by a platform, by a community that turned — hear this carefully. Examine yourself honestly, repent of any real wrong, but do not confuse man's verdict with God's. The same God who called you is unbothered by the crowd's revocation. Your commission was issued in heaven and cannot be cancelled on earth. Live for the audience of One. His 'well done' outlasts every hashtag, and His calling stands when the crowd has moved on.
