Repentance Is a Change of Mind, Not a Bucket of Tears

We have made repentance emotional when the Bible made it directional. 🔄 Metanoia — meta, change; nous, mind. To repent is to change your mind so thoroughly that your whole direction reverses. You can weep buckets at an altar and never once repent, and you can repent with dry eyes and a set jaw. Tears are not the measure. The turn is the measure.

This matters because a lot of religious grief is just remorse — sorrow that you got caught, that it hurt, that there were consequences. Remorse says, 'I feel bad.' Repentance says, 'I'm going the other way.' 🔥 One is a feeling that fades by Tuesday. The other is a decision that changes your address.

Notice that God 'commands' repentance — He does not suggest it or hope for it. It is not an optional upgrade for the spiritually ambitious. It is the front door of the Kingdom. And a command to change your mind implies you actually have the power, by grace, to think differently than you did yesterday.

Real metanoia turns the mind, and the turned mind turns the feet. Stop measuring your repentance by how wet your face is. Measure it by which way you're walking.
