FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV
John 5:14
Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.THE WORD
After healing the man at Bethesda, Jesus found him in the temple and warned him to sin no more. Grace restores, and grace also calls a person away from destructive rebellion.
The verse does not authorize the claim that every illness, disability, relapse, or hardship was caused by personal sin. John 9 explicitly rejects that assumption. Medical conditions require compassionate care rather than accusation.
When a specific sinful pattern is clear, repentance should be concrete. Yet recovery from addiction, trauma, or long-established behavior may involve treatment, accountability, relapse planning, and patient support—not merely a command shouted without help.
CONFRONTATION QUESTION
What specific pattern has grace exposed, and what support will make repentance practical rather than rhetorical?
