At Lazarus’s tomb Jesus knew resurrection was coming and still wept. Divine power did not bypass human grief. Love stood near enough to be deeply moved by death and the pain surrounding it.
The verse does not promise that every present loss will be reversed on our preferred timetable. Christian hope is resurrection hope, yet funerals remain real and grief has no uniform schedule.
Ministry to mourners begins with presence. Listen before explaining, resist clichés, provide practical care, and allow lament to coexist with faith. Tears are not evidence that hope has failed.
