Jeremiah 29:11 was written to exiles told to build houses, plant gardens, raise families, seek Babylon’s welfare, and wait through seventy years. God’s plans promised covenant hope in a long displacement, not instant escape.
God’s sovereignty does not ‘require’ our cooperation in order to remain sovereign. Yet obedience matters because hope forms a people who live faithfully before restoration is visible.
Do not use the verse to guarantee a particular job, marriage, healing, wealth, or timetable. Seek the welfare of the place where you are, fulfill present duties, resist evil, receive wise care, and anchor the future in God’s character rather than a private forecast.
