BIBLE JOURNEY · MATTHEW

Love God With the Whole Self

STUDY 156Matthew 22:37–38 · ESV

FOUNDATIONAL READING · ESV

Matthew 22:37–38

Read the complete passage slowly before entering the reflection. Let the biblical text govern every application that follows.

THE WORD

Jesus gathers heart, soul, and mind into wholehearted love for God. The command describes integrated allegiance, not a demand to generate constant emotional intensity.

Human beings have limits. Trauma, disability, depression, neurodivergence, exhaustion, and caregiving can affect concentration and feeling. God does not measure love by uninterrupted enthusiasm or compare one person’s capacity with another’s.

Wholehearted love grows through worship, truth, repentance, neighbor love, rest, study, and ordinary decisions that bring every part of life beneath God’s gracious rule.

CONFRONTATION QUESTION

Which part of your life—desire, thought, schedule, relationship, or resource—most needs to be reintegrated under love for God?

FAITH RESPONSE

I will love God with my whole actual self, receiving grace for my limits and offering every capacity as faithful stewardship.

🙏🏿 LET US GO INTO THE THRONE ROOM OF GRACE AND MERCY.™

Prayer

God of love, gather our divided lives. Heal what is wounded, order what is disordered, and teach us wholehearted devotion without shame or performance.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
TODAY’S ASSIGNMENT

Truth must become practice.

Choose one sustainable practice for heart, one for mind, and one act of neighbor love. Put each on your calendar this week.
