Jesus calls His disciples the salt of the earth within the Sermon on the Mount. Salt suggests a distinct, covenant-shaped presence whose mercy, truth, purity, and peacemaking resist the decay around it.
Saltiness is not measured by how often Christians make other people uncomfortable. Religious hostility can arise from arrogance as easily as holiness. The Beatitudes define the flavor: poverty of spirit, mourning, meekness, hunger for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, and peacemaking.
Let Christ make your witness recognizable through faithful conduct. Speak truth without contempt, protect what is vulnerable, and refuse compromise without turning neighbors into enemies.
