Colossians 3:1–4 locates the believer’s life in the risen Christ. To set the mind on things above is to orient life toward Him. The imperative calls for an ongoing disposition; it does not require uninterrupted religious thoughts or supply a percentage of the day that proves faithfulness.
The following verses make that orientation concrete: put away destructive conduct, practice compassion and forgiveness, and let Christ’s peace and word shape the community. Everyday work, relationships, and care can embody heavenly allegiance.
Examine habits that feed envy or cruelty, but do not diagnose spiritual failure from anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or emotional dryness. Attend to duties wisely, seek help when needed, and let the character of Christ govern how those duties are carried out.

- Observe: identify the speaker, audience, situation, and two statements the passage makes explicitly.
- Interpret: state the conclusion in your own words and explain which details support it. Mark any inference.
- Compare: give a reasonable alternative reading fairly. Explain why the context supports or weakens it.
- Apply: propose one present-day response. Identify what the passage does not promise and whose circumstances require care.
- Revise: check the title, illustration, prayer, and assignment against the same evidence. Change any statement that exceeds it.
A strong response names evidence, handles an objection fairly, and distinguishes application from the passage’s direct statement. Agreement with a teacher alone is not a demonstration of understanding.
