Your Walk Is Not Worthy and Your Fruit Is Telling the Truth

Paul's prayer for the Colossians is extraordinarily demanding when you let the weight of each phrase land without deflection. Walk WORTHY of the Lord — axiōs in the Greek, meaning in a manner that corresponds to the value and weight of what is being carried. When something is worthy of its label, the label matches the content. The bottle says "premium" and what is inside is, in fact, premium. Paul is praying that the life you are living matches the name you are carrying. That what is written on the outside of your life — "child of God," "follower of Jesus," "servant of the Most High" — genuinely corresponds to what is happening on the inside and what is visible in your daily conduct. The worthy walk is not a performance for others. It is the natural outflow of an interior life that is genuinely aligned with the One whose name you bear.

"Fully pleasing to him" is a phrase that should stop you cold. Not partially pleasing. Not pleasing in select compartments — at church on Sunday, in your public testimony, on your better days. Fully. The Greek word areskeia conveys the idea of complete, thorough, holistic approval. God does not live in the compartment you open for Him on scheduled occasions and close when the inconvenience of His standards becomes too restrictive. His gaze does not turn off during the weekday hours. His approval or displeasure is registering over every area of your life simultaneously — your finances, your entertainment, your private conversation, your business practices, your treatment of the people who cannot do anything for you. Is He fully pleased with your walk — not the version you have curated for public view, but the unedited, unfiltered entirety of how you are actually living?

And then there is the matter of fruit. Paul prays for bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. These are the evidential markers of a worthy walk — not the subjective sense that you feel close to God, but the objective, visible fruit of a life that is producing something. What have you produced for the kingdom lately that you cannot produce in your own strength? When is the last time your knowledge of God actually deepened — not your information about Him, not your theological vocabulary, but your intimate, experiential knowledge of who He is, how He moves, and what He sounds like when He speaks? Fruit does not lie. The tree is known by what it produces. Look at the fruit of your daily life honestly. What does it say about the condition of the root?
