Word StudyZāraʿ means to sow or scatter seed. The Hebrew text pictures light planted for the righteous, while some ancient witnesses speak of light shining; either reading grounds hope in God without guaranteeing our timetable.
THE DEVOTION
Psalm 97 celebrates the reign of the LORD amid clouds, fire, justice, and joy. Some manuscripts speak of light shining for the righteous; the Hebrew tradition reads light as sown. Both images place hope under God’s faithful rule.
Righteousness here is not flawless performance that earns an easy life. It is covenant faithfulness received and practiced under God. Upright people can still experience grief, depression, persecution, disability, and seasons where dawn appears painfully distant.
A seed disappears beneath soil before it becomes visible. That image permits patient hope without demanding instant evidence. It does not promise that every desired outcome will arrive on our schedule or that darkness proves hidden sin.
Keep practicing truth in the dark. Seek treatment, companionship, protection, and rest where needed. Let the community carry hope when your strength is low. God’s reign is not cancelled by a night you cannot yet explain.
